Linda Marie (Schmitt) Dzurisin was born in Streator, Illinois, on May 6, 1951, to Donald E. and Rosemary (Chergoski) Schmitt. She graduated from Streator High School, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, and a Master’s degree Elementary Education from California State University, Los Angeles. She married Daniel Dzurisin, also from Streator, on June 2, 1973. Thereafter, the couple spent four years in Pasadena, California, where both pursued graduate studies and Linda taught at St. Phillips Elementary School. Next came nearly five years on the Big Island of Hawaii, where son Jason Daniel Kealoha was born on July 11, 1980. The eruption of Mount St. Helens brought the family to Vancouver, Washington in 1981, where Lin taught kindergarten at Orchards Elementary School until her retirement. She passed away peacefully on April 27, 2019, with her husband and son at her side. She is survived by her husband Dan Dzurisin; son Jason (Dr. Sheina Sim) Dzurisin; siblings Don (Dolores) Schmitt of Lake Zurich, Illinois; Dr. Sue Schmitt of Streator; Bill (Cheri) Schmitt of Streator; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Nancy Schmitt. At Lin’s request, cremation rites have been accorded. Celebrations of Lin’s life will be held in Vancouver, Washington, on May 4, 2019, and later in Streator and Hawaii.
