December 0f 2004 Mack retired from US Airways at O'Hare. By 2006 when my job at Oak Creations closed and Mom started to fail, we decided to leave the western suburbs and head back to Streator for retirement. We found a beautiful home in Oak Hills and moved in 7 months before Mom passed away. We are home! We love the friendly people, nice neighbors and have become very active at the First United Methodist Church where I was raised.
Our 2 grown sons,Todd and Dean Plass remain in Dupage County. (Plass Appliance has just closed so both boys are changing careers.) Todd is still single and Dean is married and has 3 children. Both boys have very busy lives.
Now that retirement is here, I can now garden, knit and quilt-----things I didn't have time to do when I worked. I joined P.E.O. Chapter CM in 2008 and that keeps me busy. I was just elected to the board of directors at the Streatorland Historical Society so that will be a new experience. Mack still misses his airplanes---a problem we need to work on. (Streator International Airport just doesn't work!)
We are home-bodies with lots of house plants, a 6 year old German shepherd named Cody and 4 indoor cats. Never a dull moment around here! Retirement is good!
SHS looks so different now that it is hard to believe we were there. Not many people attend the basketball games anymore and that is so sad. My mom's old room #253 is now a computer lab. Time marches on!
