Remembering your kind ways and funny conversations in Mr. Arbogast's Advanced English. Most of all, I remember that brilliant smile. Be at peace, Kerry.

Kerry Daugherity was my first boy friend! We kissed in Kindergarten! We danced together all those years with Hupp and went through St. Anthony's. The Daugheritys and Mohans shared much neighborhood fun. Dan & Gene were friends of my brother Jimmy. Denise was in MIMI's class. Kevin right ahead of Nancy. The Daugheritys kept going with Shane and Shawna... a good Irish family! Kerry was always Kerry to me. He was different but taught us all how to be comfortable with who you are. I hated when people made fun of him... and always tried to be just friends. I probably didn't do a very good job of that in retrospect.

When I heard about his achievements it was no surprise. Later, when word spread that he was ill, I felt so sad. He put a human face on so much for me and still does.

Read 19 Minutes by Jodi Picquet (an excellent novel about how tough it is to grow up different). Along this journey, we become more comfortable in our own skins. In the end, it is such a waste of time to worry about what others think. We have enough trouble just minding our own business.

Where ever you are Kerry Daugherity, I know you made a difference!

Kerry and I became friends our senior year. We started talking and I'd find him at my locker between classes. He was such a nice boy with a ready smile that made his eyes sparkle. He had such beautiful eyes. He was my prom date and we had a great time. I was so sorry to hear of his illness and how he suffered. If only people understood then and were more compassionate to those that were different. Rest in peace, Kerry. God's blessings. Pam
